10 Best Sites to Sell Used Things Online

Feeling the need to declutter? One way to help your budget and bank account is to sell used things online. However, the Internet can sometimes seem like the Wild West when it comes to interacting with other people, and we’ve all heard of people being scammed by others online. I’ve rounded up the 10 best sites to sell used things online, so that you can make a little money off of the things you no longer need.

For the sites that don’t have you paying through the sites’ platform, the best way to have people pay you is to do it through Paypal or Venmo. For local transactions, you can still use these or accept cash (make sure to meet in a public place!).

10 Best Sites to Sell Used Things Online

Craigslist

Craigslist has been around forever, and it’s still a great way to list items online and sell them. We’ve successfully sold several used cars on Craiglist and haven’t had any issues. As with any situation where you’re meeting someone in person, though, make sure to meet at a public place (the best recommendation is to meet in the parking lot of a local police station!). You can sell pretty much anything on Craigslist.

Facebook Marketplace

Facebook is another top place to sell used items online. You can sell locally or have people pay for shipping if they’re not local. You can sell almost anything on Facebook Marketplace.

VarageSale

VarageSale was a new site to me, but it is legitimate. It allows you to sell locally and verifies who you are through Facebook. You only interact with other verified people. You can sell most things here.

eBay

Ebay has also been around forever, and it can still be a good place to sell used items online. List any item and have bids for it or sell it at a fixed price. You are covered by their seller protection, but you’ll also have fees to pay — usually 10-15% of the final value.

Etsy

Etsy used to be just for handmade items, but now you can sell other things as well. Sell a wide variety of things, and pay for each listing plus 6.5% of the listing price

5miles

5miles is a newer platform that is similar to Craigslist. It allows you to sell things locally.

Instagram

If you’re just one person trying to sell used items online, you can harness the power of your Instagram profile. While you’ll need to set up a business account to have people pay through Instagram, you can just list items on your profile and send Paypal invoices if you don’t want to go that route.

OfferUp

OfferUp is another site that allows you to sell used items online to others who are local to your area. You can sell almost anything on OfferUp.

Mercari

Sell almost anything on Mercari. They will charge at least 10% of the item price for any sales, plus a 2.9% + $0.50 transaction fee for each completed sale.

Recycler

Sell almost anything locally, in the same way you’d sell on Craigslist.
