1. Make a sugar scrub
All you need to make your own sugar scrub is granular sugar, juice from a whole lemon, and a glass jar. Mix the lemon juice with enough granular sugar to make it thick, then store it in the glass jar. Get your skin wet with warm water and rub with the scrub for silky smooth skin.
2. Erase dark spots on your elbows or underarms
After every shower, dip your elbow in fresh lemon juice, or rub a slice of lemon on your underarms. The acid when clear the dark spots away.
3. Whiten your teeth
Dip your toothbrush in a mixture of lemon juice and baking soda, and brush for 1 minute each day. This will brighten and whiten your teeth.
4. Flush toxins from your body
Lemons contain lots of D-Limonene, an antioxidant that helps your liver enzymes flush toxins from your body. Not only does lemon water taste good, it is great for your health. Add a couple lemon slices to your glass, or several to your pitcher.
5. Keep avocados and apples from turning brown
Ever set a cut apple down to enjoy later, only to find it all brown and gross? The compounds in apples and avocados react with air to give them discoloration. Squeezing a bit of lemon juice on them can keep them looking bright and fresh.
6. Soothe a sore throat
Then next time you are sick, mix 3 tablespoons of lemon juice with 1 tablespoon of honey, and 3/4 cup of hot water. Not only is this concoction yummy, it can help soothe your soar throat.
7. Clean your cutting board
Rub a half of a lemon on your cutting board, and then rinse in undiluted lemon juice to freshen up your cutting boards.
8. Clean your shower
Lemon juice cuts through lime scale, calcium, and other grime that builds up in your shower. Rub those stains with half a lemon, or put undiluted lemon juice in a spray bottle, spray on, and wipe away.
9. Freshen up your garbage disposal
To banish nasty garbage disposal smells, run lemon rind through it with hot water, and then cold water. It helps to get the gunk out and gets rid of odors.
10. Remove stains from plastic storage containers
For some reason, plastic containers always end up getting unsightly food stains on them. Fill a large container with boiling water and the juice from 3 lemons, and drop in the rinds. Soak your plasticware in the mixture for 3-4 hours and then rinse with warm water.
