Creative Ways To Use Halloween Candy

With Halloween behind us, most parents are dealing with the sugar highs and lows of their kids. We all know that too much sugar, especially for days on end, is not good for anyone’s body. Here are some creative ways to use your Halloween candy.

Freeze It

Throw any kind of chocolate that you have into the freezer in freezer-safe bags. Pull a few out throughout the year to add to milkshakes or bake into cookies.

Make Trail Mix

Mix small candies with lower sugar snacks like nuts, pretzels, pita chips, cereal, etc. Store your trail mix to take along on road trips, vacations, or as an everyday snack.

Make Countdown to Christmas Candy Chains

My family has been doing this for years. Have your kids pick out 24 pieces of their candy and put it in a bag (you might want to store it on a top shelf so their little hands aren’t tempted to grab a few). Remember the paper chains you used to make out of construction paper in elementary school? Make one with 24 links and tape candy to each one. Starting December 1st, your child will get to tear off one link per day and eat that piece of candy.

Save It For a Gingerbread House

From October through December, there are so many traditions that include more and more sweet treats. Instead of piling on more sugar for each one, think about saving some of that Halloween candy to use for gingerbread houses.

Use it For Parties

Do you know anyone with a winter birthday? Save some of that candy to stuff your piñata or put it in treat bags.

Send Care Packages to Military Members Deployed Overseas

Consider sending a care package to a deployed soldier. Sometimes some familiarity of items from home can be a great blessing to someone who is deployed. There are so many life lessons that kids can learn by doing this including, gratitude, service, and patriotism. If you’re not sure how to get started, military.com can walk you through the process and help you find someone to send it to.

Make treats for your Thanksgiving guests

Are you having family or friends over for Thanksgiving? Make them some yummy treats using your left-over Halloween candy. Try these Air Fryer Reese’s Peanut Butter Bites.

Make gourmet popcorn to give to friends for Christmas

This is super easy and fun! Melt candy and pour over popped popcorn. Mix in small candies like M&M’s, or larger candies that you have chopped up. Let your mixture cool and put it into treat bags to make a fun gift for kids to give to family and friends. Thanks two peas & their pod for this Twix Caramel Popcorn recipe!
