Does Hobby Lobby Have In-Store or Curbside Pickup?

It seems like every store these days offers in-store or curbside pickup. But Hobby Lobby remains and outlier. As of the end of 2023, it does not offer in-store or curbside pickup. Currently, your options are shopping inside the store or shopping online and having your items shipped. In fact, as Hobby Lobby states on its site, “all orders placed online are shipped directly to you.”

There is perhaps no better use of my time than intently browsing the aisles at Hobby Lobby, enjoying the beautiful wall mirrors, candles, pillows, storage bins, clocks, cute and clever wall décor, art and more. I love getting new ideas for my house and having a giggle when I see wall signs like “Always be yourself. Unless you can be a mermaid. Then, be a mermaid.” Hobby Lobby is like catnip. I can’t get enough.

However, on occasion, I know exactly what I want or need. And often, I need that thing now. Or at least within the next two to three hours. In these situations, it would be safer for me to stay out of the store (to avoid impulse buys), purchase only what I need online and then choose Hobby Lobby in-store pickup or Hobby Lobby curbside pickup when placing my order. But something happened when I tried to do this on the Hobby Lobby website.

Shopping Online at Hobby Lobby

I ran headlong into a conundrum when trying to choose Hobby Lobby curbside pickup while shopping online at Hobby Lobby. I couldn’t find the “how to get it” option when adding an item to my online shopping cart. I continued through the checkout process thinking it would appear or at least I’d be given the option for Hobby Lobby in-store pickup. But the Hobby Lobby cart added an estimated shipping fee and carrier surcharge at the beginning of the purchasing process, and I never got the option to choose anything other than to have my items shipped.

Note that when shopping at Michaels, for instance, before putting an item in my cart, I was offered the option to choose “how to get it.” Since I was used to this formula, I spent a fair amount of time searching the Hobby Lobby site for the same feature as you see below:

Does Hobby Lobby Have In-Store Pickup?

At this point, I had to get an answer to the question: Does Hobby Lobby have in-store pickup? Sadly, NO.

I found my answer on the Hobby Lobby FAQ page and followed up with some phone calls to random stores to confirm the following:

Does Hobby Lobby Do Curbside Pickup?

Since Hobby Lobby in-store pickup was a no-go, was there any chance I could get Hobby Lobby curbside pickup? Again, the answer is no. When I was filling my online cart with items, and in fact, throughout the entire purchasing process, there was no listing of Hobby Lobby stores near me or options to pick up at the curb.

What Is Hobby Lobby’s Shipping Policy?

Since it is impossible to get Hobby Lobby curbside pickup or in-store pick up, and the only method of receiving goods purchased on the Hobby Lobby website is to have them delivered to me, I had to determine if it made any sense to have my items shipped. What would it cost and how long would it take for me to get my order? These questions are answered on the Hobby Lobby Shipping & Returns page. Processing your online order will take three business days and delivery could add an additional seven business days to that. Hobby Lobby also notes that shipping could take longer during peak times (think the holidays).

Shipping costs are figured by the subtotal of the order. They start at $7.95 for purchases up to $15 and go up from there.

Hobby Lobby uses both FedEx and USPS to ship their products. All gift cards arrive via USPS First Class Mail and can take up to 10 business days to receive.

Which Crafting Stores Offer In-Store Pickup?

  • Michaels: Together with its user-friendly website and great rewards program, Michaels also has a crackerjack pickup service. If you want to gather your purchases from your local Michaels, just choose the preferred option before adding the item to your cart.
  • JOANN: While offering a narrower product selection, if you are looking for crafting supplies like fabric, scrapbooking supplies, yarn and needlecrafts, Cricut supplies and machines, etc., you can order your items online at JOANN and take advantage of in-store pickup.
  • Dollar Tree: The Dollar Tree has such low prices on small crafting items like popsicle sticks, ribbon, stickers, crayons, beads, floral crafts and more, that it requires you to meet certain quantity minimums for online purchases. With that said, click on your first item and before adding it to your cart, you will have the choice of selecting to either pick up your order at a local store or have the order shipped to you.
  • Target: Clearly Target is not exclusively a craft store. However, crafters of all stripes know that Target has serious craft-store street cred. What’s more, Target’s pickup service is efficient and operates like a well-oiled machine. Before adding an item to your cart, your choices for delivery will be:
    • Pick it up within two hours of placing your order at the store of your choice (assuming they have the item in stock).
    • Same-day delivery through Shipt.
    • Standard shipping (costs vary).

Which Crafting Stores Offer Curbside Pickup?

  • JOANN: The “how to get it” section of the order page lets you choose curbside pickup if the item is in stock at the store of your choice.
  • Target: Target calls their curbside pickup service “Drive Up.” You’ll need to use the Target app to order your items and schedule your pickup time.
  • Walmart: Walmart sells plenty of crafting supplies and offers free curbside pickup on orders over $35.
