8 Free People Dupes You’ll Regret Not Buying

3 min

I’ve been a super fan of Free People since well before I had kids, or as my kids like to say, since the 1900s. I don’t know if my adoration is because of the brand’s free-flowing boho styles or their unique ability to put a cute twist on a regular ol’ T-shirt, but whatever the reason, I’m a hopelessly devoted Free People customer.

Free People is all about “femininity, courage and spirit,” according to its site. It carries like-minded brands sharing its whimsical ideology, like designer Magnolia Pearl. Their high-quality apparel and extraordinary designs have made it as much beloved today as it was decades ago.

Free People prices are relatively affordable, especially considering I still have clothes purchased over 20 years ago in my current rotation. Where the boho retailer can get really expensive is with the more luxe brands they carry, including Jen’s Pirate Booty, One Teaspoon, Tricia Fix, Diesel, MOTHER and the aforementioned Magnolia Pearl. For example, there’s currently a pair of $750 super adorable Diesel jeans. Just no!

So, while there’s really no substitute for Free People’s designs and the unique personality they bring to apparel, there are really great alternatives that give off a Free People aesthetic, but that cost a lot less.

Free People-Inspired Fashion to Shop

This whimsical, fairy-core-inspired pull-on skirt is made from lightweight lace fabric. It’s adorned with tiered ruffles for that extra dash of dainty sophistication that cascades downward with sheer lace.

2. BDG Saylor Spliced Quarter-Zip Sweatshirt

Just like Free People, this oversized sweatshirt by BDG splices together different textures and stripes that create an unmissable combination. It’s cut with an easy, relaxed fit and has a quarter-zip placket at the front.

IMO, Free People made high-low skirts what it is. This Topshop high-low skirt can be a casual or dressy addition to your wardrobe. With viscose fabric that flutters about when you move, the drama of it all is sure to follow you in this outfit-defining skirt.

4. Lucky Brand Textured Pintuck Blouse

6. Anthropologie Sunburst Pleated Sheer Midi Skirt

This airy creation from Anthropologie, another Free People sister brand, has a sheer style just like Free People. The pleats give this pull-on skirt even more character, and its pretty color brings a pop to everything it pairs with.

7. Out From Under Bondi Balloon Jogger Sweatpant

As a sister brand of Free People, Urban Outfitters carries oodles of similar styles. This pair of UO Out From Under sweats have an effortlessly drapey silhouette with a midrise and baggy balloon legs. The wide, smocked waistband makes them easy to go on and off.

8. En Saison Adalee Top

The Adalee top from En Saison has delicate features reminiscent of Free People styles, with its embroidered smocking throughout the body and cuffs. The ruffle tuffs just give it a little extra oomph.
