CVS is notorious for its super-long receipts. But it’s almost as renowned for its ExtraCare rewards program. The CVS rewards program is free to join, and if you shop there for prescriptions or everyday supplies, it’s definitely worth it. From ExtraBucks to a CVS birthday reward to members-only weekly sales, the ExtraCare rewards program will keep your hard-earned cash in your pocket.
In January 2024, CVS announced its new two-tier ExtraCare program, which includes benefits that were formerly provided by the CVS ExtraCare Beauty Club and the Pharmacy & Health Rewards programs. Whether you’re a beauty lover or have prescriptions to fill on a regular basis, the ExtraCare will help you earn points every time you shop at CVS. Here’s what to know about all of the goodies the CVS ExtraCare rewards program has to offer.
When you sign up for CVS ExtraCare, don’t forget to sign up for RetailMeNot cash back. That way, you can stack your rewards by earning CVS ExtraBucks and cash back. To get RetailMeNot Cash Back, find the latest offer.
How to Use CVS ExtraCare Rewards
Signing up for the CVS rewards program and earning points on every purchase couldn’t be easier. To sign up for ExtraCare, create an account on the CVS website or in the CVS Pharmacy app. You can also sign up in store at CVS. Expect to provide basic information like your name, email and phone number, along with your birthday so you can access that sweet $3 ExtraBucks birthday gift.
The Benefits of CVS ExtraCare Rewards
The more you shop, the more you save. Here are some of the benefits you can get through the ExtraCare rewards program.
- 2% back in ExtraBucks Rewards.
- $3 birthday reward.
- Access to members-only deals.
Previously known as CarePass, ExtraCare+ is CVS’s paid membership program. If you’re a frequent customer at the drugstore, the $5 monthly fee ($48 if you get an annual membership) may be worth it. You’ll earn 20% off all CVS Health store-brand products, as well as free same-day prescription delivery and free shipping (or free same-day shipping!) on nearly every product. Plus, you’ll get a $10 monthly promo reward added to your ExtraCare account every month. So, if you’re at CVS at least once a month anyway, the membership fee will pay for itself.
How Do You Earn CVS ExtraBucks Rewards?
With the CVS ExtraCare program, you’ll earn 2% back toward ExtraBucks Rewards with everything you buy, with the exception of some items like alcohol or lottery tickets. And while CVS previously issued these reward certificates to shoppers on a quarterly basis, you can now access your earnings anytime through the CVS Pharmacy app or CVS.com. So if you want to use a small number of rewards on an everyday purchase, you can do so; conversely, you can save your rewards toward making a larger purchase. Don’t have a smartphone or prefer paper coupons? You can still receive printed quarterly reward certificates, per CVS.
Earning CVS ExtraBucks Rewards in Person
To earn CVS ExtraCare Rewards points in person, scan your physical card or your barcode in the CVS app at checkout. And if you forget your smartphone or membership card when you’re shopping at CVS in person, don’t worry. You can provide the phone number associated with your account to look up your ExtraCare number so that you can still earn points on your purchase. Just make sure you do provide your phone number when you check out — you can’t retroactively earn points by uploading a receipt later if you forget to use your account number at the time of purchase.
Earning CVS ExtraBucks Rewards Online at CVS.com
As long as you’re logged into your CVS account, you’ll automatically earn ExtraBucks Rewards on your CVS.com purchase.
How Does the CVS Birthday Reward Work?
In addition to earning 2% toward ExtraBucks on your CVS purchases, your CVS rewards membership will earn you an additional $3 in CVS ExtraBucks Rewards during your birthday week. Just share your birthday when you sign up for a CVS account and ExtraCare membership, and the reward will be loaded to your account automatically. You can spend it on almost any item in store or at CVS.com, though there are exceptions for products like alcohol and gift cards.
Note that you need to sign up for ExtraCare Rewards at least four weeks before your birthday to get the annual gift, per CVS. So don’t show up at the drugstore on the big day and hope you can just flash your ID and claim your reward.
What Happened to the CVS ExtraCare BeautyClub Membership?
Before January 2024, CVS offered three other memberships — in addition to the ExtraCare rewards program — for shoppers to save across different categories. ExtraCare BeautyClub and ExtraCare Pharmacy & Health Rewards benefits are now automatically included in the ExtraCare program without a separate membership. The paid CarePass program is now called ExtraCare+ and offers the same benefits as before.
Can You Earn CVS ExtraCare Rewards for Delivery Orders?
The short answer is yes. In addition to earning 2% in ExtraBucks Rewards for your purchases in store and at CVS.com, you can earn rewards for CVS delivery orders through Instacart and Shipt. Just make sure to link your ExtraCare Rewards card number to the delivery service, and note that it can take up to 48 hours for your rewards to be reflected in your online account.
What Other Deals Can You Get Through CVS Rewards?
In addition to earning 2% rewards back on every purchase you make at the drugstore, you can access exclusive deals on all of your favorite items. Some CVS ExtraCare Deals have included $3 off L’Oreal cosmetic products, $1 off Downy fabric conditioner or $3 off Pampers. Think of it as a pre-clipped coupon book, ready for your use.
To add these deals to your CVS card, visit CVS.com/ExtraCare and click “send to card.” Voila — it’s like your own personal sale.
Track Your Prescriptions Through Your CVS Account
Having a CVS account does more than save you money through the CVS rewards program. It also helps you keep track of prescriptions you’ve filled and vaccinations you’ve gotten at CVS locations. If you visit “My Prescriptions” at CVS.com, you’ll see if and when your prescriptions are eligible for refills, along with the dates you last filled them and the dates of your CVS vaccinations.
How to Save Even More With CVS ExtraCare Rewards
So, you know about the CVS birthday reward and the 2% ExtraBucks you’ll earn while shopping. But are you taking advantage of all of the additional ways to save at the drugstore?
- Sign up for emails and promotional text messages from CVS. If you opt in to the marketing messages, you’ll earn even more because you’ll never miss a deal. According to CVS, shoppers who opt into ExtraCare Rewards emails earn an average of three times more savings than those who don’t get the emails or text messages. In addition to receiving emails and text messages, you can turn on notifications in the CVS app to make sure you never miss a deal.
- Turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone. If you’re using the CVS app, turning on Bluetooth will let the app use your location to tailor your deal offerings to your local CVS stores.
- Browse the weekly ad. If you regularly check the weekly ads in the newspaper, why aren’t you looking at the CVS ad, too? You can access it at CVS.com and in the CVS app, and it will tell you all of the upcoming deals at the store.
Does CVS Have a Credit Card?
While using store credit cards like the Target RedCard can help you save even more at your favorite stores, CVS doesn’t have a store credit card. So, as long as you’re using your ExtraCare card on every purchase, you can shop with the confidence that you’re earning as much as you can on every purchase.
