The internet abounds with amazing streaming services and shopping and educational plans that promise to make your life easier, your food arrives faster, your entertainment more entertaining, your abs more toned and so on.
But before you dive into membership, take a free test spin. Thesecompanies offer amazing free trials that are yours for the (temporary) taking, with minimal effort. Read on to see the whole list with advice on how to sign up, what you get and how to easily unsubscribe before you’re billed.
TV Streaming Free Trials
Check how to get discounts and free trials for all the top streaming services.
Max Free Trial
Though Max (formerly HBO Max) doesn’t offer a free trial, there is a workaround. If you are either a Hulu or Amazon Prime subscriber, you can get a free one-week Max trial through those memberships. A Max subscription through the provider costs up to $19.99, depending on the plan you pick.
How long is the free trial? New subscribers can get one free week through other platforms (see below).
How to sign up:
- Through Hulu: Register for a free Max trial through your Hulu account and then go to the Premium Add-Ons section to choose Max.
- Through Amazon Prime: Register for a free Max trial through your Amazon Prime account, confirm your details, and you’re good to go.
There are also other ways to get Max free. For example, certain AT&T mobile plans offer Max and some Cricket Wireless users get Max free, too.
How to cancel: For both Hulu and Amazon, you will need to cancel before your subscription automatically renews to avoid being charged. To do so:
- Head to Hulu to unsubscribe from this and any other add-on service. Otherwise, you’ll be charged $15.99 per month.
- As for Amazon, go to your Prime video account & settings page to unsubscribe. Amazon’s current Max rate is $15.99 per month.
Hulu Free Trial
Wait, don’t have Hulu in the first place? Sign up for a free trial of Hulu to see if the service, with its blend of original programming and access to shows from other networks, sports and more, suits your needs.
How long is the free trial? One month for ad-supported Hulu or no-ad Hulu. If you want the Hulu + LiveTV plan, there is currently no free trial offer, though in the past, we’ve seen seven-day free trials for this membership tier.
How to sign up: Go to Hulu.com and click “Start Your Free Trial.”
Want to stick with Hulu? Hulu has a range of plans, from the basic Hulu service that’s $7.99/month to a Hulu + LiveTV plan for cord-cutters that’s $79.99/month. You can also bundle it with Disney + ESPN to make life even more convenient (more on that below).
How to cancel: Cancel your free Hulu trial by signing into your Hulu account, going to your Account page, then going to the Your Subscription section where you can cancel.
Sling TV Free Trial
Sling TV is a customizable streaming service that tries to offer something for everyone, from entertainment channels like AMC and Bravo, Hallmark Channel, and History Channel; cooking and lifestyle networks including HGTV, Magnolia Network and Food Network; plus movies from Cinefest, EPIX Drive-In; not to mention tons of news and sports networks. The brand says it’s “the first app-based TV service,” and you use the internet to watch your favorite live or on-demand shows, both at home and away.
How long is the free trial? Offers change. Sometimes, you get a free trial; other times, you’ll see a discount on your first month. At press time, the discount is 50% off your first month.
How to sign up: Right now, there is no free trial available for Sling TV, but if you’re interested in trying it out, you can give it a one-month spin for a discount. Sign up for your Sling TV discounted trial period here.
Sign up for a Sling Orange (best for families and sports fans) or Sling Blue (entertainment and news-oriented viewers). Each plan is $40 a month, or you can bundle Orange & Blue together for $55/month total. Go a la carte with additional extras, like DVR Plus or more sports or comedy networks, to really make this plan work for your household.
How to cancel: Cancel your one-month trial through your Sling TV dashboard.
YouTube TV Free Trial
YouTube TV is another fantastic option for cord cutters, allowing you to watch live TV from over 85 channels. There’s no annual contract, and you have unlimited cloud DVR storage, so you can watch when you want. In case you’re wondering, it is not the same as YouTube Premium.
How long is the free trial? 10 days (this tends to change, but it was most recently 10 days).
How to sign up: Go to tv.youtube.com/welcome to sign up.
Want to stay with YouTube TV? Right now, the service is $15 off for the first three months of the YouTube Base plan and $72.99 a month after three months. Or choose the Spanish plan, which offers 34 Spanish networks (including shows, sports, and more). The Spanish plan is $34.99 a month (and has a seven-day free trial). Plus, now you can get the NFL Sunday Ticket.
How to cancel: Cancel before your free trial period ends by going to tv.youtube.com and your profile. Then, under settings > membership > manage, click Cancel Membership. Even easier: check out all the details and a link to cancel YouTube TV now.
Paramount+ Free Trial
Paramount+ is a budget-friendly streaming service where you can stream popular shows from tons of networks, including Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, CBS and BET — plus original series like “Tulsa King,” “1923,” “Wolf Pack” and “Star Trek: Picard” and NFL, UEFA and NCAA games.
How long is the free trial? One week
Other ways to get Paramount+ free:
- If you’re a Walmart+ subscriber, you get a free subscription to Paramount+ (the Essential plan) included with your membership.
- We’ve seen offers for a free year via Sprint and T-Mobile in the past, but there’s no offer currently active.
How to sign up: Visit the Paramount+ website to choose your plan and start your free trial.
Want to keep Paramount+? It’s a reasonable $5.99/month for the Essential plan or $11.99/month for Paramount+ with Showtime (which gets you ad-free streaming and access to Showtime programming).
How to cancel: Cancel anytime by going to your account at paramountplus.com/account and clicking “Cancel Subscription.”
ESPN+ Free Trial
Sports fans can get in on all the action with a subscription to ESPN+. However, there’s currently no free trial available for ESPN+, so your only option is to give it a test run (unless you’re a Verizon customer — more on that below).
How long is the free trial? Sorry, sports fans, but it’s pay-for-play here. No ESPN+ freebies at press time. You can cancel anytime from your Hulu account page, whether you decide to ditch all three services or just want to remove ESPN+ from your Hulu account.
Verizon customers get the three services — Hulu, Disney+, ESPN+ — for free if they have either the “5G Get More” or “5G Play More” plans.
How to sign up: The cheapest workaround is to opt into the Hulu/Disney+/ESPN+ bundle for $14.99 a month to get all three services, or add ESPN+ only through Hulu for $10.99 a month, then cancel anytime if you decide it’s not right for you.
How to cancel: Visit support.espn.com/hc/en-us/articles/13617782234260-Canceling-Your-ESPN-Subscription to cancel ESPN+ or Disney bundle.
Free Trials for Shopping Services
Walmart+ Free Trial
Walmart+ customers receive free delivery, often same-day, of groceries and other items from their local Walmart store so long as they spend at least $35. They also receive free shipping on all purchases from Walmart.com, savings on gas and prescriptions and access to special members-only deals and savings, like a recent Walmart+-only exclusive access event on Xbox and Playstation restocks.
How long is the free trial? 30 days
How to sign up: Choose whether you’d like the $98 annual plan or the $12.95 per month option instead. You will not be charged until after your 30-day trial ends.
How to cancel: You can cancel before your free trial ends and avoid being charged by visiting your account page or contacting customer care at 1-800-WALMART.
Amazon Prime Free Trial
No doubt you’re familiar with the massive retailer Amazon. Its Prime membership confers many benefits on its members, from free shipping to access to free streaming of many a movie or TV show, a monthly free Amazon Prime read as well the ability to borrow other e-books and discounts at Whole Foods and Amazon Grocery. Amazon’s trial offers have varied recently, from free to a discounted trial.
How long is the free trial? 30 days
How to sign up: Check for which free trial or discounted trial is being offered. If you’re not eligible for a free trial (i.e., you’ve already claimed the free trial offer in the past 12 months), this option might not display if you’re logged in. A nice bonus is that unlike other free trials, which are only available to first-time users, anyone who has not been an Amazon Prime member in the last 12 months can take advantage of this generous offer.
How to cancel: If you don’t want to keep your Prime membership, cancel or otherwise manage your membership by visiting amazon.com/gp/primecentral. Otherwise, thanks to Amazon’s recent rate increase, membership now costs $14.99/month or $139/year. Note that students can pay for a Prime Student Monthly membership for $7.49 per month after your free trial ends, and the price for Qualified Government Assistance is $6.99/month after your free trial ends.
