Whether you couldn’t get your hands on Eras tour tickets or just want to relive the magic, Swifties who don’t have Disney+ subscriptions should take note. Taylor Swift’s Eras tour movie hits the streaming service on March 14, bringing the magic of the worldwide phenomenon to your TV at home.
Before the concert recording headed to Disney+, the only option to watch the tour at home was to rent it for three days at a time, resulting in multiple $19.89 charges. (And yes, we see what she did there with the cost.) So for fans who want to watch the tour multiple times, the title being available to stream on Disney+ is a game-changer.
But what if you aren’t a Disney+ subscriber yet? If you’re not into Marvel, National Geographic, “Star Wars” or classic Disney productions, you might not be forking your hard-earned dollars over to Disney each month. If streaming the Eras tour on loop is what finally pushes you to join Disney+, here’s what to know.
How Do You Sign up for Disney+?
Signing up for a new subscription with the streamer is pretty straightforward. Head to DisneyPlus.com and choose the plan that’s right for you—you’ll be able to start watching Disney movies and TV shows right away. Plans range from $7.99 a month to $24.99 a month, depending on which other streaming services, if any, you bundle with Disney+, as well as whether or not you choose an ad-supported version.
Note that to sign up for a Disney+ account, you’ll have to provide a valid email address and create an account with a new password. You’ll also have to provide your credit card information, regardless of which plan you choose.
How Much Is Disney+?
The cost of a Disney+ subscription depends on whether or not you want to bundle it with Hulu and/or ESPN. But if you’re just looking for a basic Disney+ membership, it’ll run you $7.99 a month with ads or $13.99 a month without ads.
It’s worth noting that Disney+ Premium, aka just the streaming service without ads, also has an annual price option of $139.99. That’ll save you $27.89 per year, so if you don’t need Hulu and ESPN, it’s a deal you’ll want to consider.
What About Disney+ Bundles?
If you’re ready to upgrade your entire streaming situation (and not just add Disney+ to stream the Eras tour), there are multiple bundle options available. An ad-supported Disney+/Hulu bundle will run you $9.99 a month, while the ad-free monthly cost is $19.99.
By itself, meanwhile, a Hulu membership costs $7.99 with ads or $17.99 without ads. So you’ll rack up significant savings by subscribing to both services.
And if you’re a sports fan, you can save more by bundling Disney+ with Hulu and with ESPN. That’ll set you back $14.99 a month for the ad-supported plan or $24.99 a month ad-free.
Is There a Disney+ Free Trial Option?
If you’re not sure whether or not you’re ready to commit to a monthly plan (or you just want to stream the Eras tour once and move on), you probably won’t like this news. While Disney+ offered weeklong free trial periods when it first launched in 2020, the streaming service no longer has a cost-free trial option. (Don’t kick yourself for missing out, though—the free trials only lasted for the service’s first six months on the market.)
That means you’ll have to commit to paying for at least one month of the service before canceling. But on the plus side, if you cancel your Disney+ subscription before the month is up, you’ll still be able to use the service until the last day of your billing cycle. You paid for it, after all!
Are There Any Other Disney+ Discounts Available?
While free trials are no longer available on the streaming service, all hope isn’t lost for those seeking a lower Disney+ price. For one, the streamer offers a military discount via The Exchange. And some cell phone/internet service providers, such as Verizon, offer Disney+ bundles at a lower rate than you’d find on the Disney+ website when you add them to your monthly phone plan.
In short, there are plenty of package options, all at a variety of price points, for new Disney+ subscribers. And with the Eras tour’s recording within reach, there’s never been a better time to bite the bullet and sign up for a Disney+ account.
