I enjoy finding new low carb recipes, because I find I do better with fewer carbs. However, sometimes it can feel like I’m compromising on an exciting meal that I’m looking forward to eating. If you’ve ever felt that way, you’ll want to try these smothered chia ranch turkey burgers! The burgers themselves only have three ingredients, so they come together super quickly. Then you just top them with sauteed onions and your favorite mustard or other condiments!
The “secret” ingredient in these burgers is chia seeds. Chia seeds are a source of healthy fats and while many people use them to make something sweet like chia seed pudding, they also work great as a binder for things like meatloaf and burgers, because they will absorb some of the moisture.
Low Carb Smothered Chia Ranch Turkey Burgers
If you’re just making the burgers, you only need 3 ingredients! Ground turkey, ranch seasoning, and chia seeds.
I use one packet of ranch seasoning (the kind you can turn into salad dressing) per pound of meat. So if you’re cooking only 1 or 2 lb worth of burgers, you can decrease the ranch seasoning.
Break up the meat, add the seasoning, and then add the chia seeds. Use 2 tbsp. chia seeds for each pound of meat. Chia seeds are widely available (I find mine at Aldi). I keep them in the freezer since they’re not something I use very often.
Make sure it’s all mixed together really well!
I cook mine on a foil lined baking sheet, but you can also set them on a rack on the sheet. My ground turkey was extremely lean so I didn’t bother to do that.
You’re going to bake them for about 20-25 minutes at 400.
While the burgers are cooking, saute several sliced onions in olive oil.
Once the burgers are out, you can top the burgers with onions and your favorite mustard. I served mine alongside Instant Pot Carrots with garlic, salt, and parsley.
