HomeGoods has long been a cult favorite of decor and furniture enthusiasts and bargain hunters alike, due to the uniqueness of each store and the treasure-hunt-like experience. And, in 2021, we were overjoyed to learn that, after years of being in-store-only, HomeGoods was opening up to e-commerce.
However, just two years later, in October 2023, HomeGoods is going back to in-store-only.
Can You Shop HomeGoods Online?
No, not anymore. HomeGoods shut down its e-commerce site on Oct. 21, 2023. It announced the news via email to its subscribers, which read “We’ve made the decision to focus our resources on our brick-and-mortar stores.”
Despite its attempts to go online, HomeGoods shoppers seemed to be more enthusiastic by its in-store experience — online purchases represented less than 1% off HomeGoods business the past two quarters. In fact, in-store shopping might be part of HomeGoods’ appeal. Every store has different stock and different items, contributing to its treasure hunt-like experience. And HomeGoods owns that reputation, encouraging its website visitors to #GoFinding.
Note that other TJX brands (including T.J. Maxx) are still offering online shopping.
Is HomeGoods Closing?
No. The shutting down of the HomeGoods online store does not mean HomeGoods itself is shutting down. It might seem strange to shoppers to see a retailer go in-store-only, as generally we see stores do the opposite — Pier 1 and Bed Bath & Beyond going online only, for example. But HomeGoods is a strange place. In fact, its success is due to its unique in-store shopping experience. Its constantly shifting stock and unique finds in each location encourages browsing and the thrill of the hunt. Those who truly love HomeGoods for what it is likely didn’t feel the same way about the online shopping experience.
