Easter is coming up fast… time to start planning and shopping.
I have a great idea to help you something tasty to serve at your family breakfast or brunch! Those amazingly easy and delicious Bacon Havarti Dill Scones you see above are sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
A little crispy while still flaky and buttery, these scones are the ultimate addition to any menu. You don’t need very many ingredients or any special tools or techniques to put together a delicious baked good that will be the star of your next meal.
While many scones are sweet, my guys prefer this savory version. The crispy delicious Hatfield Bacon pairs perfectly with the salty dill Havarti for a flavor combination that is just amazing. With just a few pantry staples you end up with a big batch of scones that will feed 8 hungry folks. And because they are so simple to make you may want to make a double batch if you want leftovers!
The ingredients are pretty simple and I bet you have most of them on hand. A good savory scone requires real butter and heavy cream as the base. But it’s that Hatfield Bacon and cheese combo that really takes them to the next level.
No need for a mixer and there’s no needing or resting! Just whisk together your dry ingredients, add the bacon, cheese and dill then stir in your cream. From there you shape the dough, cut it and bake it up and in less than 30 minutes you are ready to enjoy a warm and absolutely amazing scone!
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons very cold butter, grated or cut into small cubes
- 8 slices of Hatfield Bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled
- 1 cup dill havarti cheese, shredded
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
- ¾ cup of heavy cream + additional for brushing
- Preheat the oven to 400º F.
- Mix the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, black pepper and salt together in a large bowl.
- Use a pastry cutter (or a couple of forks) to cut the COLD butter into the dry ingredients, just until pea sized crumbs form.
- Add the bacon and cheese and mix to combine.
- Make a hole or well in the center of the mixture and add ¾ cup of cream and mix just until everything is incorporated. You should be able to squeeze the dough together. If too crumbly, add a little more cream and mix.
- Move the dough to a lightly floured surfacer and shape into a rectangle that is 12″x3″ in size.
- Carefully cut the rectangle into 8 equal sized triangles (see diagram above for easy cutting).
- Place on a parchment lined sheet pan and brush the tops of the scones with heavy cream.
- Bake for 20 – 22 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve and enjoy!
