Need to shop for essentials or last-minute gifts but don’t want to get out of the car or spend too much time around people in the stores?
Luckily, plenty of brick-and-mortar retailers offer in-store pickup programs, which allow you to shop online and then pick up for free in the store, often only a few hours later. In some cases, you can even get curbside service – great for when you’re rushing around during your lunch break or have a sleeping baby in the car! On the savings side, you’ll get to avoid the $10 or so in fees that you’d normally incur using same-day delivery services and apps like Doordash, Postmates, Uber and Instacart.
Check out the retailers below that currently offer in-store pickup — either same day or after the item is shipped to store. Just be sure to select the “pick up in store” option at checkout! See which stores are offering discounts on their pickup services.
Shopping at Amazon? Just because you’re shopping at a predominately online retailer doesn’t mean you can’t pick up your packages in person. You can absolutely pick up an Amazon order in person (even if not the same day).
Target Store Pickup
Pickup options:
- In-store pickup.
- Drive Up (curbside). You can even add a Starbucks drink to your order!
It’s a tale as old as time: You go into Target for one thing and emerge with 20. Take a more focused approach to your Target run by ordering online and picking up in-store. (Just steer clear of the dollar spot on your way to customer service.) Or, for even more convenience, opt for the Drive Up option, which lets you pull up and have your order loaded into your car.
To see if an item is eligible for order pickup, look for “free ship to store” or “free order pickup” when adding items to your cart.
You can also shop from a list of pickup-eligible items by browsing any category and selecting “buy online & pick up” from the “shipping & pickup” drop-down.
If you opt for in-store pickup, just head to the customer service desk with your proof of purchase. Make sure to wait until you receive a ready-for-pickup notification.
If you want to use the curbside Drive Up services, you’ll need to use the Target app. Shop via the app, select the Drive Up option, wait for the notification that your order is ready, head to Target, pull into the Drive Up area and tap “I’m here” in the app. A Target employee will bring your items directly to your car for free. And, now, you can include a Starbucks drink in your Target pickup order!
Fun fact: Target lets you return items via Drive Up as well!
Walmart Store Pickup
Pickup Options:
- In-store pickup (not available at all stores).
- Curbside pickup.
Walmart offers many items that can be picked up same-day or shipped for free to your nearest Walmart, which is super-convenient if there’s something online that isn’t available at your local store. Note that some stores have only curbside pickup, while others have both curbside and inside-the-store pickup options.
Tons of items are available for Walmart pickup, from groceries, to electronics, to clothing.
Just shop your local Walmart online or in their mobile app and filter by “Pickup” to see which items are eligible.
You will receive an email notification when your order is ready for pickup. Simply go to the designated store pickup area inside (if your store still has one) to collect your items. For curbside pickup (much more common these days), park in the reserved parking, hit the link in your email (or check in via the Walmart app) to notify the store that you are there, and an associate will load your items into your vehicle.
Additional considerations: You’ll need to make sure your order is over $35 for it to be eligible for free curbside pickup.
Whole Foods Store Pickup

Online orders can be placed using amazon.com/wholefoods or through the Whole Foods tab in the Amazon mobile app. Next, enter your ZIP code, add your desired item to the cart, and select “change to pickup” or “change to curbside pickup.”
Once you place your order, be sure to wait and check in with your confirmation email. When arriving at the store, follow the instructions to the reserved parking, and an associate will bring out your order. Or opt to pick up your order from inside the store.
Additional consideration: Online ordering is currently only for Amazon Prime members.
Sprouts Farmers Market Store Pickup
Pickup Options:

Sprouts Farmers Market stores offers store pickup on orders of $10 or more. Your first pickup order over $35 is free, and all other pickups will cost $1.99 for orders over $35 and $3.99 for orders under $35.
After signing in to your account, just start adding items to your list. After you finish shopping, check out and select your pickup window.
Once you receive a notification that your order is ready for pickup, follow the instructions in your pickup notification.
Apple Store Pickup

When an item is available at your local Apple store, you can order it online and choose to pick it up in-store, often within an hour. In some instances, you may also be able to select a window of time to go to an Apple Store to pick up your order to avoid waiting. And with Apple’s free personal setup service, you can walk out with a fully setup and functioning product. For curbside orders, just park in a designated spot, notify Apple that you are there, and an associate will bring out your order.
They also have fast and free delivery on any in-stock iPhone products and free two-day delivery on almost everything else. Faster options are available for a fee. Plus, they offer two-hour delivery in most metro regions for a small $9 courier fee. You can select this option at checkout if it’s available.
Best Buy Store Pickup

Best Buy lets you order and pick up your order in-store in as little as an hour for select products. Bring your ID, credit card and order number to the store and pick up your items at the Store Pickup desk. They’ll hold them for up to five days. Avoid shipping fees and ensure that your brand-new 50-inch TV isn’t waiting outside your home while you’re at work all day.
Prefer curbside pickup? Make sure to select “Use Curbside Pickup” on the “Review and Place Order” screen at checkout. Your confirmation email will tell you where to park and how to contact the store. A store employee will load your items into your trunk.
Barnes & Noble Store Pickup

Can’t wait to start reading your new book and don’t want to wait for shipping? Opt for Barnes & Noble’s store and curbside pickup options. Just order online (you can choose whether you want to pay up front or pay at the store). Then, select “Buy Online, Pick Up on Store.” Within two hours, you’ll receive a pickup notification. Then, head to customer service to get your order, or call ahead and ask to have your order brought out (only available if you paid in advance online).
The Container Store Pickup

On a mission to reorganize your kitchen? Use The Container Store’s pickup option, and pick up all the drawer organizers or storage bins you desire. The Container Store has free curbside service at most locations, where an employee will bring your order out to your car — a nice perk if you’re ordering bulky items. Some stores don’t have parking lots and you’ll be required to head inside the store to get your order.
Make sure to select “Store Pickup” at checkout when you place or order.
Home Depot Store Pickup

Sick of trolling the aisles of Home Depot for that random half-inch, galvanized carriage bolt? We are, too. Order online, pick up at customer service and avoid the meandering. Store pickup is available at all Home Depot stores, with purchases typically ready in a few hours. Thousands of items are eligible for this service. Talk about a game-changer!
Or, opt for Curbside pickup to have items brought out to your car. Select “Curbside” at checkout. You’ll need to use the Home Depot app to check in and let the store know where you’re parked. Note that curbside pickup hours often end earlier than store closing time (at 6 p.m. in some locations).
Both pickup options are free, meaning you’re avoiding those online shipping fees.
Lowe’s Store Pickup

Lowe’s currently offers both in-store pickup and curbside. Just choose “FREE Store Pickup” as your shipping option when you place an order at Lowes.com or on the mobile app. You will be notified via email once your purchase is ready for pickup. Plus, they’ll hold your items for up to seven days.
For store pickup, you’ll follow bright-blue pickup signs to the customer service desk to collect your purchase. If your item is small enough for a locker, you’ll use the barcode in your pickup email to pop your locker open and grab your item. For curbside, you’ll park in a designated pickup space, call the store, have your ID ready and an employee will bring your order out contact-free to your car!
World Market Store Pickup

Look for items marked with “free store pickup” and add them to your basket at the World Market website. At checkout, select which products you want to be shipped (if any) and which you want to pick up in-store. You can get them as soon as the same day or schedule them to pick up at a more convenient time for you.
Opt to pick up your items inside the store, or follow the instructions in your confirmation email to have your items delivered to your car.
Walgreens Store Pickup

You can shop thousands of items online or through the Walgreens app, ranging from beauty goodies and vitamins to last-minute holiday gifts and snacks straight from your local store. Choose to pick up your purchase free of charge via curbside, at the drive-thru, or in-store pickup in as little as 30 minutes! Your order must total $10 or more to qualify for pickup.
CVS Store Pickup

At CVS, you can order photos, prescriptions and even shampoo and pick it all up that same day, in as little as an hour. Plus, you can use their app to monitor your order and set a pickup time.
Note that CVS does not have curbside pickup, and in-store pickup isn’t available at all stores. To retrieve your order, you’ll wait for the confirmation email and then go to the checkout counter to get your order.

Sephora Store Pickup

Whether you’re trying to pick up a new fragrance, skincare product or makeup, Sephora truly has all things beauty-related. However, you might find yourself not wanting to wait in line to buy your items, or prefer the ease of browsing online instead of hunting the aisles. Luckily, Sephora offers in-store and curbside pickup for online orders.
Online orders for in-store pickup or curbside will usually be ready within a few hours. You will receive a notification via email or the mobile app when your order is available. After you arrive at the store, notify a beauty advisor that you’re picking up an order. Or, call the store to let them know you’re there and would like your order delivered curbside.
Ulta Beauty Store Pickup

Buying all of your favorite beauty products is easier than ever, thanks to Ulta Beauty’s in-store and curbside pickup options. You can shop all products on Ulta’s website or mobile app and choose pickup before checking out. You will be notified when your order is ready for pick up. Bring your ID and head to the pickup counter to grab your items. If you don’t feel like going in the store for your order, just call Bloomingdale’s when you arrive, and an associate will deliver the items to your car.
Place an order online before noon local time, and your order will be available the same day, usually within two hours.
Dick’s Sporting Goods Store Pickup

JCPenney Store Pickup

JCPenney offers free same-day, in-store pickup, which means your order may be ready in as little as two hours if it is placed at least two hours to closing time.
For in-store pickup, just wait for your confirmation and head to the in-store-pickup counter. If you’d prefer curbside, park in the designated curbside spot, check in via your confirmation and wait for your items to be loaded into your trunk.
Kohl’s Store Pickup

Once you’re done shopping on the Kohl’s website, and you buy the items in your bag, click the “FREE STORE PICKUP” tab next to “SHIP.” Then, all you have to do is wait for the notification that your order is ready for free pickup at your local Kohl’s! Orders are usually ready within two hours (assuming you placed your order at least two hours before the store closes).
You’ll pick up your order at the customer service desk.
Does Kohl’s Have Curbside Pickup?

Macy’s Store Pickup

Nordstrom Store Pickup

Many love Nordstrom for its customer service, and the service with in-store pickup is no exception. You can even mix and match the way you buy, so if you have items you want to pick up ASAP (like that elegant blazer to wear on your upcoming job interview), plus items you want to have shipped to you and purchases you want to send to someone else, you can do it all in one order.
When you shop, make sure your location is set, and filter by “Free Pickup.”
Then shop. Select “Free Pickup” at checkout, and you’ll receive an email when your order is ready. Head inside to get your purchases, or follow the directions in your order confirmation to get your stuff curbside (each Nordstrom has a designated parking area for curbside service).
Academy Sports + Outdoors Store Pickup

At all locations, Academy offers two-hour curbside pickup and buy online pickup in-store options. Dollar Tree Store Pickup
