It’s no secret that Free People is my most favorite brand in the world, and lots and lots of other people’s, too. Maybe it’s because Free People can take an ordinary piece of clothing and turn it into something so spectacular and unique that you just can’t wait to make it your own. Whatever the reason, we are in a completely committed relationship with this brand.
From a 1970s store in West Philadelphia, selling plants, records and some clothing, Free People morphed into the master of combining the latest trends with vintage-inspired fashion designs. This American brand encourages you to embrace your free-spirited side and celebrate your individuality. But that free spirit and individuality don’t always come with super affordable prices for everyone.
Since Free People isn’t really like other retailers, finding real ways to save isn’t the easiest thing to do. Free People doesn’t have a loyalty program where you can earn perks every time you shop or even has a regular sale schedule to follow. But we’ve found at least a few ways that’ll help you save when shopping at this beloved brand.
1. Sign Up for Free People Emails
You won’t get any sort of discount for signing up like at other stores, but if you’re a new customer, you can get free Express shipping on your first order when you sign up for emails and texts. Plus, you’ll receive early access to new arrivals, sales, events and back-in-stock notifications, to name a few. You can also request a free catalog if you want to hold FP closer.
2. Shop the Regular Free People Sale
Free People has a dedicated sale section with savings of up to 70% that includes more than just past-season merchandise. Sure, there’s plenty of that, but there’s also stuff you can wear in the current season. Be warned, however, that sizes sell out quickly, especially the most popular ones.
3. Look for Annual Sales at Free People
Honestly, there’s no rhyme or reason to when Free People throws sales, so most can’t be predicted with 100% certainty. But so far, in 2024, Free People is running more sales than in the past.
FP Sale on Sale Sales
Free People offers an extra 25% off sale merchandise for several days periodically throughout the year. Look for these in January (Jan. 12 to 15) and September (Sept. 3 to 5, 2023).
FP Need-Now Sale
The new limited-time surprise Need-Now Sale offered 25% off select cozy favorites from Feb. 16 to Feb. 19. It included the We The Free Cozy Camden Sweatshirt, the Arizona Sky and Luna Pullovers and teddy texture collections.
FP Start With Pink Sale
The new Start With Pink sale took everyone by surprise when it started on March 13. It included 50% off select FP Movement styles in our favorite hue – pink.
FP Summer Sale
The Free People Summer Sale gives shoppers up to 50% off new markdowns — during the summer. Look for this sale to run toward the end of June and into the first of July.
FP Purchase With a Purpose Discount
Free People is fairly consistent with this one-day only 15% off discount on FP Movement merchandise. FP gives 100% of the net profits to Girls Inc. It’s typically offered to shoppers on Thanksgiving Day and sent out via email.
FP Spend $150 Get $100
Although Free People sales don’t have a regular schedule, the “Spend $150 Get $100″ offer seems to have stuck. This year, it was offered on March 19, which is a big spring treat since we’ve mostly only seen this at the end of the year. Past years have been from Dec. 3-8, 2023, and Dec. 4-14, 2022.
FP Black Friday and Cyber Monday Sales
When it comes to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Free People isn’t really much different from other retailers, except these FP sales don’t last as long. The FP Feel Good Friday Sale offered 50% off select styles in 2023 and started Nov. 23 and lasted until Nov. 25. The one-day Cyber Monday sale offered 40% off and really did only last for 24 hours, but app users were able to get early access one day before everyone else.
FP After-Holiday Sale
Free People holds its After-Holiday Sale, well, the day after the holidays have ended. In 2023, it kicked off on Dec. 26 with an extra 50% off already reduced sale merchandise. FP app users were given early access on Dec. 25, 2023, and free Express shipping on orders over $150.
FP Slope-Ready Sale
If you’re planning a ski trip, this is your chance to save 50% off select FP ski styles. Last year was the first time we ever saw this sale and it included items like the Bunny Slope Puffer and the All Prepped Ski Collection, for example. It started in late December, and all sales were final.
4. Get Free Shipping at Free People
At one time, Free People only offered free standard shipping on orders of $100 or more. But now, shoppers in the U.S. can get free shipping on every order (excluding oversized home items). Plus, you can also use Free People’s free in-store pickup option if it’s available for the merchandise you’re purchasing in your area.
Free People also throws out “free Express shipping on any order” opportunities like confetti several times during the year, so make sure you’ve signed up for their emails.
5. More Tips for Saving at Free People
Check Current Promotions at Free People
The current promotions section has a wealth of savings knowledge. These promos are available for a limited time and can include things like writing a review for a chance to win a $500 Free People e-gift card, free Express shipping when you place your order through the Free People app or free standard shipping on all orders.
Shop Free People at Other Retailers
Just because Free People isn’t throwing a sale doesn’t mean you can find deep discounts at retailers that carry the brand and offer other perks like free shipping.
Free People In-House Brands
Free People carries a slew of other brands, like the beloved Magnolia Pearl, Levi’s and For Love & Lemons, but it’s their in-house lines that we truly adore.
Free People Movement
FP Movement is the activewear line, featuring stylish and functional workout clothing, including leggings, sports bras, tops, and outerwear. The line is designed to provide comfort and versatility for active lifestyles.
We the Free
We the Free is probably my favorite FP line because of its sporty, heritage-inspired, laid-back vibe. The line starts around $30 and goes up to over $900, depending on the item, which includes the We the Free Bags.
Free-est
When looking for warm-weather summer and beachwear looks, head straight to FP’s Free-est collection. It features airy, flowy styles with swimsuits, effortless throw-on dresses, midi skirts and lots more.
Intimately Free People
Intimately Free People is the brand’s in-house intimates label that includes pretty and ruffly base layers, loungewear, lingerie and lots more.
1809 Collection
Free People’s 1809 Collection only has a few products under this wellness line, including all-natural home fragrances, candles, body oils and more.
FP Mart: Marketplace
The FP Mart is a space where small businesses and artisans can sell their one-of-a-kind products directly to customers. It’s kinda like Etsy but with an FP aesthetic.
